Gisele Crawford

Gisele Crawford, M.A.A., is a Research Specialist at the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  She has worked on numerous studies of young children’s school environments and experiences.  She is a member of the FirstSchool team, a prekindergarten through third grade initiative dedicated to improving the school experiences and outcomes of typically underserved students.  She has published articles and book chapters related to serving diverse populations of children in early education settings, and is a contributing author of FirstSchool: Transforming PreK-3rd Grade for African-American, Latino, and Low-Income Children and a co-author of the online course The Art of Communication in Classrooms for Young Children.  All of these efforts focus on transforming the culture of school to create genuine relationships and support ongoing reflection and growth for educators, students, and families.
