This entertaining and interactive session will feature aRPy, the spokesperson for the ECTA Center’s tools on the DEC Recommended Practices.  He will take you on a tour of the suite of resources that the ECTA Center has developed to promote the understanding and use of the DEC Recommended Practices: Performance Checklists, Practice Guides for Practitioners and Parents, Guidance for Practitioners, Strategies for Professional Development and Program Improvement, and online modules.  We will emphasize practices that promote inclusion. 
2017
Participants in this interactive session will engage with products developed by the ECTA Center to promote the use of the DEC Recommended Practices by practitioners, families, and professional development providers. They will experience how the ECTA center products were developed, apply the products to challenges in real practice, generate practice challenges of their own for future training, and test drive training activities. A key feature of this session will be reacting to aRPy Ambassadors’ work in state improvement efforts and creating “game plans” for their own programs.
2018
This session will focus on supporting continuous quality improvement of inclusion using the Inclusive Classroom Profile (ICP). The session will present an overview of the ICP tool, a tool designed to measure and support the quality of inclusive practices in early childhood classrooms.  A pilot project from one state will be presented and discussed in relation to how the ICP was used to support quality inclusion. How to use the Routines-Based Interview in preschool settings to determine the ecological congruence between the demands of classroom routines and children’s interests and abilities. People have a sense about the importance of looking at context, but this session will focus on advanced information for determining skills the child needs to participate in classrooms as well as at home and in the community. Participants will give feedback about critical skills for common classroom routines. We will discuss how many assessment sources are really necessary to develop a functional IEP.

This session will provide an overview of a conceptual model being used to design a new framework for assessing early childhood program quality.  Information will be provided on the measurement design process, as well as implications for children with disabilities and inclusion.  Participants will be provided with an opportunity to give feedback on framework development process.

Through the Race to the Top – Early Learning Challenge Program and other reform efforts, states are being challenged to develop systems for rating, monitoring and improving early learning and development programs.
